Yoon-Hee is a 2014 South Korean drama film directed by Yoon Yeo-Chang. The narrative centers on the challenges faced by a North Korean defector living in South Korea as she attempts to secure the funds necessary to bring her daughter, Da-Som, from China.

Plot Summary

The protagonist, Yoon-Hee, is a North Korean defector working as a milk delivery person. Her life is upended when she encounters a disabled man who subsequently accuses her of a hit-and-run incident. The man is part of a group that orchestrates insurance scams. Despite the fraudulent nature of the accusation, the incident gains traction on the internet, leading to public backlash that results in Yoon-Hee losing her job.

Desperate to raise money for her daughter's relocation, Yoon-Hee attempts to work as a surrogate mother, but she faces further exploitation when she is denied payment. Distrustful of her legal counsel, she chooses to represent herself in court to resolve her legal troubles.

Production

The film was directed by Yoon Yeo-Chang, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jung Tae-Sung. The cinematography was handled by Ham Soon-Ho, and the film was produced by Lee Jung-Hoon. It was released in South Korea on January 9, 2014, with a total runtime of 89 minutes.
