Wongyeong (TV Series)

Wongyeong is a South Korean television series that premiered in 2025. Directed by Kim Sang-Ho and written by Lee Young-Mi, the drama explores the life and political influence of Queen Wongyeong during the early years of the Joseon dynasty. The series was broadcast on tvN and made available on the streaming platform TVING.

Plot

The narrative centers on Lady Min, later known as Queen Wongyeong, who hails from a prestigious family of government officials. She enters a marriage with Yi Bang-Won, the fifth son of King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty. As Yi Bang-Won seeks the throne, he faces succession challenges after his father selects his older brother, Yi Bang-Gwa, as the heir. Lady Min acts as a strategic partner and "kingmaker" to secure her husband's ascension to the throne as King Taejong. Following his coronation, the relationship between the couple becomes strained due to the king's acquisition of concubines and his efforts to consolidate royal authority by curbing the influence of the Queen's family.
