White: Melody of Death (2011 Film)

White: Melody of Death (Korean: 화이트: 저주의 멜로디; RR: Hwaiteu: Jeojooui Mellodi) is a 2011 South Korean horror film directed by Kim Gok and Kim Sun. The film explores the competitive nature of the K-pop industry through a supernatural lens.

Plot

The story follows "Pink Dolls," a struggling K-pop girl group that consistently fails to achieve mainstream success. Their fortunes change when they discover an old, unreleased track titled "White." After recording a remake of the song, the group experiences a sudden rise to fame. However, as the members compete for the position of lead singer, they begin to suffer from a series of mysterious and violent accidents. Eun-Joo, the group's former breakdancer, eventually discovers that the song carries a dark, supernatural curse.

The film was directed by Kim Gok and Kim Sun, with a screenplay co-written by the directors and Shin Kwang-Ho. It was distributed by CJ Entertainment and released in South Korea on June 9, 2011. The film has a runtime of 106 minutes.

Film Festivals

White: Melody of Death was screened at several international film festivals, including the 30th Vancouver International Film Festival in 2011, where it held its North American premiere, and the 16th Fantasia Film Festival in 2012.
