While You Were Sleeping (Korean: 당신이 잠든 사이에; RR: Dangshini Jamdeun Saie) is a South Korean television series that aired on SBS from September 27 to November 16, 2017. The drama consists of 32 episodes, broadcast in the Wednesday and Thursday 22:00 time slot.
Plot Synopsis
The story follows Nam Hong-Joo (Bae Suzy), a woman who possesses the ability to foresee the future deaths of others through her dreams. She lives with her mother and assists in running a pork restaurant. Despite her efforts to prevent these tragic events, she often struggles with the uncertainty of when they will occur. Her life takes a turn when she begins dreaming of her own mother's death.
Jung Jae-Chan (Lee Jong-Suk), a rookie prosecutor, becomes involved in Hong-Joo's life after moving into the neighborhood with his younger brother. Jae-Chan shares a complicated history with Lee Yoo-Beom (Lee Sang-Yeob), a former private tutor turned lawyer who prioritizes financial gain over ethics. When Jae-Chan dreams of a chain of events involving Yoo-Beom that leads to the deaths of Hong-Joo and her mother, he intervenes to alter the outcome. Following this, Jae-Chan and Hong-Joo begin collaborating to solve various legal cases.
Production
The series was written by Park Hye-Ryun and directed by Oh Choong-Hwan and Park Soo-Jin. The first script reading was held on January 20, 2017, in Mokdong, Seoul. Principal photography commenced in February 2017 and concluded on July 27, 2017, at the Wonbang set in Paju, South Korea.
