Uncle Samsik (Korean: 삼식이 삼촌) is a South Korean television series that premiered on Disney+ in 2024. Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, the narrative explores the intersection of political ambition, personal desire, and the drive for national industrialization. The series is notable for marking the first television drama role for veteran film actor Song Kang-ho.

Plot

The story centers on the relationship between two men: Sam-Sik, played by Song Kang-ho, and Kim San, portrayed by Byun Yo-han. Kim San is a graduate of the Korean military academy who travels to the United States to study economics. Upon returning to South Korea, he harbors a vision of transforming the nation into a major industrial power. Sam-Sik enters his life, claiming to be a supporter of his ambitious goals, leading to a complex partnership defined by their shared and conflicting desires.

The series was written and directed by Shin Youn-shick. It consists of 16 episodes and was broadcast from May 15 to June 19, 2024.
