Typhoon (Korean: 태풍; RR: Taepung) is a 2005 South Korean action film directed and written by Kwak Kyung-taek. The film explores themes of geopolitical conflict and personal vendetta, following the story of a North Korean defector who turns to piracy to exact revenge against the governments he blames for his family's tragedy.

Plot

The narrative centers on Sin, a North Korean defector who, as a child, attempted to escape to South Korea with his family. After being betrayed, his parents are killed, leaving him with a deep-seated hatred for the political systems that failed them. As an adult, Sin joins a group of pirates in Thailand and orchestrates the theft of a U.S. ship carrying nuclear materials that were secretly manufactured in Taiwan. He is pursued by Kang Se-jong, a South Korean naval officer tasked with stopping the threat. Throughout the pursuit, Kang begins to understand the personal motivations behind Sin's actions, leading to a complex moral conflict between the two men.
