Thread of Lies (2014 Film)

Thread of Lies (Korean: 우아한 거짓말; RR: Wooahan Geojitmal) is a 2014 South Korean drama film directed by Lee Han. The film is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by author Kim Ryeo-Ryeong. It examines the emotional aftermath of the suicide of a 14-year-old girl, focusing on the experiences of her mother and older sister as they navigate grief and uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.

Production

The screenplay was adapted by Lee Sook-Yun, Lee Han, and Kim Dong-Woo. Production for the film commenced on August 28, 2013, and concluded on November 4, 2013. The film was distributed by Movie Collage and released in South Korea on March 13, 2014.

Reception and Awards

Thread of Lies was screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival in 2014 as part of the Korean Cinema Today: Panorama section. At the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2014, Kim Hyang-Gi received the award for Best New Actress for her performance in the film.
