The Whispering (2018 South Korean Film)
The Whispering (Korean: 속닥속닥; RR: Sokdaksokdak) is a 2018 South Korean horror film directed by Choi Sang-Hun. The film belongs to the teen-horror subgenre and centers on a group of high school students who experience supernatural occurrences after visiting an abandoned amusement park.
Plot
The story follows Yeo Eun-Ha, a student struggling with the trauma of her best friend's death and the resulting academic pressure following a poor performance on her college entrance exams. Seeking an escape, she joins five classmates on a road trip to the beach. During their journey, the group becomes lost on a mountain road and discovers a derelict amusement park. Despite being warned away by an elderly woman, the students, led by Woo-Sung, decide to return to the site to explore a haunted house attraction, intending to livestream the experience on social media. Once inside, the group begins to hear mysterious whispers and encounters malevolent forces.
Production
The film was directed by Choi Sang-Hun, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kim Joon-Hyun. It was produced by Kwak Dong-Hak and Choi Sang-Hun. The cinematography was handled by Park Seung-In. The production focuses on the psychological and physical isolation of the characters within the abandoned setting.
