The Throne (2015 Film)
The Throne (Korean: 사도; RR: Sado) is a 2015 South Korean historical drama film directed by Lee Joon-ik. The film dramatizes the tragic historical relationship between King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty and his son, Crown Prince Sado, culminating in the prince's execution by his father in 1762.

Plot
The narrative centers on the strained relationship between King Yeongjo (Song Kang-ho), who struggles to maintain his authority and legitimacy, and his son, Crown Prince Sado (Yoo Ah-in). Yeongjo, burdened by his own complex background and high expectations for the monarchy, demands perfection from his heir. Sado, however, finds himself increasingly alienated by his father's rigid discipline, preferring artistic and martial pursuits over the scholarly rigor expected of a future king. The resulting psychological divide leads to a catastrophic breakdown in their familial and political bond.
