The Tale of Nokdu
The Tale of Nokdu (Korean: 조선로코 녹두전; RR: Joseonroko Nokdujeon) is a South Korean television series that aired on KBS2 from September 30 to November 25, 2019. The drama is based on the webcomic Nokdujeon by Hye Jin Yang, which was serialized on Naver Webtoon from 2014 to 2018. Directed by Kim Dong-Hwi, the series follows the story of Jeon Nok-Du, a man who disguises himself as a woman to infiltrate a mysterious widow's village.
Plot
Jeon Nok-Du (Jang Dong-Yoon) lives on an island with his father and brother, where he is kept from the mainland and discouraged from pursuing formal studies. After his family is attacked by a group of female assassins, Nok-Du tracks one of the assailants to the capital. During his investigation, he encounters Dong Dong-Ju (Kim So-Hyun), an apprentice training to become a gisaeng. To uncover the truth behind the attack on his family, Nok-Du disguises himself as a woman and enters a secluded village inhabited only by widows, where he crosses paths with Dong-Ju again.
Production
The series was produced for the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot on KBS2. The first script reading for the production took place in June 2019 at the KBS Annex Broadcasting Station in Yeouido, South Korea. The broadcast schedule experienced a minor disruption on October 14, 2019, when episodes 9 and 10 were preempted by a baseball game between the SK Wyverns and the Kiwoom Heroes; these episodes were subsequently aired on October 15, 2019.
