The Swordsman (2020 South Korean Film)
The Swordsman (Korean: 검객; RR: Geomgaek) is a 2020 South Korean action film written and directed by Choi Jae-Hoon. Set during the transition period of the Joseon dynasty following the deposition of King Gwanghaegun, the film follows a retired master swordsman who is forced to return to his former life to rescue his kidnapped daughter.

Plot
Following the dethronement of King Gwanghaegun, the nation's most skilled swordsman, Tae Yool (played by Jang Hyuk), retreats into seclusion. As the Joseon dynasty faces political instability amidst the power struggle between the Qing and Ming dynasties, a member of the Qing imperial family named Gurutai (Joe Taslim) begins imposing harsh demands on the local population. When Tae Yool’s daughter, Tae Ok (Kim Hyun-Soo), is abducted by Gurutai’s subordinates, the former swordsman is compelled to take up his blade once more to track down his daughter and confront the invaders.
Production
The film was directed and written by Choi Jae-Hoon. Principal photography for the production commenced on June 15, 2017, and concluded on September 14, 2017. The film was distributed by Opus Pictures and received its theatrical release on September 23, 2020.
