The Suspect (2013 Film)

The Suspect (Korean: 용의자; RR: Yonguija) is a 2013 South Korean action film directed by Won Shin-Yeon. The film follows the story of Ji Dong-Cheol, a former North Korean special forces agent who defects to South Korea after being abandoned by his government. While attempting to track down those responsible for the death of his family, he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a prominent corporate executive.

Production

The film was directed by Won Shin-Yeon, with a screenplay written by Lim Sang-Yoon and Won Shin-Yeon. Production was handled by Showbox. Principal photography commenced in the autumn of 2012 and concluded on June 2, 2013, spanning a nine-month filming period. The Suspect marked the first time actor Gong Yoo appeared in an action-oriented film.

The Suspect was released in South Korea on December 24, 2013. The film was later screened at the 18th Fantasia Film Festival in 2014, where it held its Canadian premiere.
