The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (Korean: 하늘에서 내리는 1억 개의 별) is a 2018 South Korean television series broadcast by tvN. The drama, which aired from October 3 to November 22, 2018, consists of 16 episodes. It is a remake of the 2002 Japanese drama series of the same name, originally produced by Fuji TV.

Plot

The story follows a detective who considers resigning from his position. His life becomes complicated when he investigates the murder of a female university student, a case initially staged to appear as a suicide. As he becomes deeply involved in the investigation, he grows suspicious of a man who lacks memories of his childhood. The detective's younger sister eventually meets this man, and despite the detective's attempts to keep them apart, the two fall in love. The detective suspects that the man is connected to the murder case.

Production

The series was directed by Yoo Je-Won with a screenplay by Song Hye-Jin. The first script reading was held in early July 2018 at the Sangam DDMC in Seoul. During its production, the project was known by the working title The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, which was later adopted as the primary English title, though it was also referred to as Hundred Million Stars From the Sky. The series occupied the Wednesday and Thursday 21:30 time slot on tvN, following Familiar Wife and preceding Encounter.

The series maintained a consistent broadcast schedule throughout its run in late 2018. Viewership ratings fluctuated during the 16-episode run, with the premiere episode recording a nationwide rating of 3.996% according to AGB Nielsen.
