The Roundup (2022 Film)

The Roundup (Korean: 범죄도시2; RR: BumJoedoshi 2) is a 2022 South Korean action crime film directed by Lee Sang-yong. It serves as the sequel to the 2017 film The Outlaws and features Ma Dong-seok reprising his role as the formidable Detective Ma Suk-do.

Plot

Set four years after the events of The Outlaws, the narrative follows Detective Ma Suk-do and his team from the Geumcheon Police Station. The unit is tasked with extraditing a suspect who has fled to Vietnam. Upon arrival, Ma discovers that the suspect is linked to a series of brutal crimes orchestrated by the ruthless Kang Hae-sang, played by Son Suk-ku. The investigation spans across Vietnam and South Korea as Ma pursues the criminal.

Production

The film was produced by Yoo Young-chae with a screenplay by Kim Min-sung. Filming for the project began in mid-2019 in South Korea.

Reception and Awards

The Roundup received recognition at several domestic film ceremonies. At the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards, the film received the Top Box Office Seller award, and the technical team of Heo Myung-haeng and Yoon Sung-min was honored with the Best Technical Award. At the 58th Daejong Film Awards, the film won in categories including Best Editing (Kim Sun-min) and Best Cinematography (Joo Sung-rim), while Park Ji-hwan received the People's Award.
