The Remarried Empress (Korean: 재혼 황후; Revised Romanization: Jaehon Hwanghu) is an upcoming South Korean fantasy-romance television series directed by Jo Soo-Won and scheduled to stream on Disney+. The series is adapted from the popular web novel of the same name written by Alphatart.

Production and Development

The series is based on the web novel Jaehon Hwanghu by author Alphatart, which was originally published serially on Naver between November 2, 2018, and March 31, 2020. Screenplay duties for the television adaptation are handled by Yeo Ji-Na and Hyun Chung-Yeol, with Jo Soo-Won serving as director. Production milestones included the initial cast script reading, which took place on May 13, 2025.

Premise and Synopsis

Set within a royal court framework, Navier is the highly capable and respected Empress of the Eastern Empire, recognized for her intellect and composure. Her stable, companionate marriage to Emperor Sovieshu is disrupted when Sovieshu brings a runaway slave named Rashta into the palace and makes her his mistress, breaching an understanding regarding concubines.

Meanwhile, Prince Heinrey serves as the heir to the throne of the Western Kingdom. Belonging to a clan possessing the secret ability to transform into birds, Heinrey travels in avian form to the Eastern Empire's palace to gather intelligence, during which time he encounters Empress Navier. Following a formal divorce notice from Sovieshu, Navier shocks the court by petitioning to remarry Prince Heinrey.
