The Queen Returns (South Korean TV series)
The Queen Returns (Korean: 공주가 돌아왔다; RR: Kongjuga Dolawatda) is a South Korean television drama series that aired on KBS2 from September 14 to November 3, 2009. The series consists of 16 episodes and was broadcast in the Monday and Tuesday 21:55 time slot.
Background
The series, directed by Park Ki-Ho and written by Lim Hyeon-Kyeong and Lee Joo-Yeon, was originally developed under the working title Wensuwa Hamgge Chumeul (Dancing With The Enemy). It replaced the series Korean Ghost Stories in its time slot and was subsequently followed by Taming of the Heir on November 9, 2009.
A notable aspect of the production was the return of actress Hwang Shin-Hye to television acting, marking her first appearance in a KBS2 drama since Match Made in Heaven in 1994.
Plot
The story follows the lives of two former friends, Cha Do-Kyeong and Jang Kong-Sim. During their school years, Do-Kyeong was popular and affluent, while Kong-Sim felt overshadowed by her friend's success. Their lives diverge significantly after an accidental one-night stand between Do-Kyeong and Na Bong-Hee, who was Kong-Sim's boyfriend at the time, results in an unwanted pregnancy. Following a marriage between Do-Kyeong and Bong-Hee, the two women find their social and personal roles reversed: Do-Kyeong becomes a homemaker, while Kong-Sim pursues an international career and achieves celebrity status. Their rivalry intensifies as they compete for the attention of Hyun-woo, a man who harbored a crush on Do-Kyeong during their youth.
