The Negotiation (Korean: 협상; RR: Hyeobsang) is a 2018 South Korean crime thriller film directed by Lee Jong-suk. The narrative centers on a high-stakes hostage crisis, pitting a skilled police negotiator against a dangerous international weapons smuggler.

Plot

Ha Chae-yoon, portrayed by Son Ye-jin, is a crisis negotiator for the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency known for her calm and professional demeanor. Her skills are tested when Min Tae-gu, a ruthless weapons smuggler played by Hyun-bin, initiates a terrifying hostage situation. Chae-yoon is given a 12-hour window to resolve the crisis and save the lives of the hostages.

Production

The film was produced by Min Kyung-wook and Lee Sang-jik, with cinematography by Lee Tae-yoon. Principal photography commenced on June 17, 2017, in Paju, South Korea, and concluded on December 9, 2017. The Negotiation is notable for being the first project in which actor Hyun-bin portrayed a villainous character.
