The Killing Vote

The Killing Vote (Korean: 국민사형투표; RR: Kookminsahyungtopyo) is a South Korean television series that aired on SBS from August 10 to November 16, 2023. The thriller drama is based on the webcomic of the same name written by Eom Se-Yoon and illustrated by Jung Yi-Poom, which was serialized on Kakao from 2015 to 2016.

Plot

The series centers on a mysterious figure known as "Dog Mask" who initiates a national voting system. When heinous criminals manage to evade legal punishment, citizens over the age of 18 receive a text message poll. If more than 50% of the respondents vote in favor of the death penalty, Dog Mask executes the individual. The story follows the police investigation into the identity and motives of Dog Mask, involving three primary characters: Kim Mu-Chan, a police team leader; Kwon Seok-Joo, a former legal scholar turned prisoner; and Joo Hyun, a cyber safety officer.

• Park Hae-Jin as Kim Mu-Chan, the leader of the First Investigation Team at the Southern Police Agency.
• Park Sung-Woong as Kwon Seok-Joo, a former legal scholar serving time in prison for killing the person who assaulted his daughter.
• Lim Ji-Yeon as Joo Hyun, a police officer at the Cyber Safety Bureau of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

Production

The series was directed by Park Shin-Woo with a screenplay by Jo Yoon-Young. It consists of 12 episodes and was broadcast on Thursdays at 21:00 KST on SBS.
