The Great Shu Ra Ra Boom (Japanese: 偉大なる、しゅららぼん, Hepburn: Idai Naru, Shurarabon) is a 2014 Japanese fantasy comedy film directed by Yutaka Mizuochi. The film is an adaptation of the 2011 novel of the same name written by Manabu Makime and published by Shueisha.
Plot
The story follows Ryosuke Hinode, played by Masaki Okada, who moves in with his relatives, the Hinode family, at Ishibashi Castle near Lake Biwa upon entering high school. The Hinode family possesses mysterious, supernatural powers. Ryosuke's cousin, Tanjuro Hinode (Gaku Hamada), is the heir to the family and is known for his eccentric behavior, which includes forcing Ryosuke to wear a distinctive red uniform to school. The narrative centers on the long-standing, century-old rivalry between the Hinode family and the Natsume family, which intensifies when Ryosuke and Tanjuro confront Hiromi Natsume.
Production
The film was based on the novel Idai Naru, Shurarabon by Manabu Makime, which was released on April 30, 2011. Principal photography for the film commenced in April 2013, with filming locations situated in Shiga Prefecture. The film had its premiere as the opening selection at the 24th Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in 2014.
