Directed by Park Hong-Kyun and Kim Keun-Hong and written by Kim Young-Hyun and Park Sang-Yeon, the series explores historical and dramatized events surrounding the Silla kingdom.

The series originally aired on MBC from May 25 to December 22, 2009, airing on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 in the Korean language. Due to high television viewership ratings during its run, the production was extended from its originally planned 50 episodes to a total of 62 episodes.
Premise and Narrative
The narrative is loosely based on the life of Queen Seondeok of Silla, who ruled the Korean kingdom from 632 to 647. The plot follows Deokman—the childhood name of Queen Seondeok—who was born a twin and abandoned as an infant. She later returns to the Silla palace and joins forces with her twin sister, Princess Cheonmyeong, to counter the political ambitions of Mi-shil.
