The Flower in Prison

The Flower in Prison (Korean: 옥중화; RR: Okjoonghwa) is a South Korean historical television drama series that aired on MBC from April 30 to November 6, 2016. The series consists of 51 episodes and was broadcast in the Saturday and Sunday 21:45 time slot.

Plot

Set during the Joseon Dynasty, the narrative follows the life of Ok-Nyeo, a woman born in prison. As she grows, she becomes involved with the oeji-bu, a historical system that provided legal assistance to those in need within the kingdom.

Production

The series was directed by Lee Byung-Hoon and Kim Sung-Yong, with the screenplay written by Choi Wan-Kyu. The first script reading for the production took place during the first week of March 2016 at the MBC Broadcasting Station in Sangam, South Korea.

The Flower in Prison succeeded the drama Marriage Contract in its time slot and was subsequently followed by Father, I'll Take Care of You on November 12, 2016.
