The Divine Fury (2019 Film)

The Divine Fury (Korean: 사자; RR: Saja) is a 2019 South Korean supernatural action-horror film written and directed by Kim Joo-hwan. The film explores themes of faith and struggle through the story of a martial arts champion who becomes involved in the world of exorcism.

Plot

Yong-hoo (Park Seo-jun) is a successful martial arts fighter who has harbored deep resentment toward humanity since the childhood death of his father. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Priest An (Ahn Sung-ki), a veteran exorcist. As they form an unlikely partnership, they are drawn into a dangerous conflict against a powerful, malevolent force.

Production

The film marked a reunion between director Kim Joo-hwan and lead actor Park Seo-jun, who had previously collaborated on the 2017 film Midnight Runners. Principal photography for The Divine Fury commenced on August 14, 2018. During the casting process, actress Esom was initially selected for the role of Nun Teresa but withdrew due to scheduling conflicts with the drama series The 3rd Charm; the role was subsequently filled by Kim Si-eun.
