The Contact (Korean: 접속; RR: Cheob-sok) is a 1997 South Korean romantic drama film directed by Chang Yoon-Hyun. The film is noted for its exploration of human connection through emerging digital communication technologies during the late 1990s.

Plot

The narrative centers on Dong-hyun (Han Suk-Kyu), a radio DJ who receives an anonymous package containing a Velvet Underground record. Believing the gift might be from a former lover, he plays the song "Pale Blue Eyes" on his program. The broadcast is heard by Su-heon (Jeon Do-Yeon), a home shopping telemarketer, who later requests the song again via the internet. This digital interaction initiates a correspondence between the two, as Dong-hyun attempts to determine if Su-heon is connected to his past.

Production

The Contact was directed by Chang Yoon-Hyun, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Myung Joo Cho and Kim Eun-Jung. The film was produced by Shim Bo-Kyoung and released in South Korea on September 13, 1997. It has a runtime of 105 minutes.
