The Birth of the Rich (Korean: 부자의 탄생; RR: Bujaui Tansaeng) is a South Korean television drama series that aired on KBS2 from March 1 to May 4, 2010. The series, directed by Lee Jin-seo and written by Choi Min-ki, explores themes of wealth and success through the lives of its central characters.
Plot
The story follows Oh Tae-bong (Ji Hyun-woo), a man living in modest conditions who is convinced he is the secret heir to a wealthy business conglomerate, or chaebol. Despite his belief, he works as a hotel houseman and navigates various challenges. He crosses paths with Lee Sin-mi (Lee Bo-young), a genuine chaebol heiress who maintains a frugal lifestyle, often using sample cosmetics and choosing inexpensive coffee, all while striving to prove her capabilities to her father, who holds traditional views on gender roles. The narrative also features Bu Tae-hee (Lee Si-young) and Chu Woon-seok (Namkoong Min), who represent the high-class social circle.
Production
The production of The Birth of the Rich began in early 2010. The main cast commenced script rehearsals on January 25, 2010, with principal photography starting on January 28, 2010. The series occupied the Monday and Tuesday 21:55 time slot on KBS2, following the conclusion of Master of Study, and was succeeded by Secret Agent Miss Oh on May 10, 2010.
