The Big Swindle (2004 Film)
The Big Swindle (Korean: 범죄의 재구성; RR: Beomjweui Jaeguseong) is a 2004 South Korean crime film written and directed by Choi Dong-hoon. The film centers on a sophisticated bank heist and the subsequent investigation, utilizing a non-linear narrative structure to reveal the planning and execution of the crime.

Plot
The story begins with the death of Chang-hyok Choi (Park Shin-yang) following a high-speed police chase after he leaves the Bank of Korea. The heist, which involved five accomplices, resulted in the theft of 5 billion won. In the aftermath, one accomplice, Eol-mae (Lee Moon-sik), is apprehended by authorities, while the others vanish along with the stolen funds. Through a series of flashbacks, the film explores the intricate planning of the scam and the motivations of the individuals involved. The investigation draws in Chang-hyok's estranged brother and In-keong Seo (Yum Jung-ah), a woman connected to the veteran con artist Mr. Kim (Baek Yoon-sik).
Production and Inspiration
The film's narrative was inspired by the 1996 Bank of Korea incident in Gumi City. Specific elements of the crime, including the forgery of deposit checks and various swindling techniques depicted in the film, were adapted from the methods used in that real-life case.
