The Avian Kind (2015 Film)

The Avian Kind (Korean: 조류인간; RR: Joryooingan) is a 2015 South Korean film directed and written by Shin Youn-Shick. The film blends elements of drama and science fiction to explore a narrative centered on disappearance and human connection.

Plot

The story follows a novelist, Jung-Suk, who has spent years searching for his missing wife. He documents his experiences and grief in a novel. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a woman named So-Yeon, who has read his book and claims she can assist him in his search. As they navigate their journey, it is revealed that So-Yeon is also searching for someone. Their path leads them into an isolated area where rumors circulate regarding the mysterious fate of several missing individuals.

Production and Release

The Avian Kind was produced by Kim Ji-Young, with cinematography by Choi Yong-Jin. The film held its world premiere on May 3, 2014, at the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival as part of the Jeonju Digital Project. It received a general theatrical release in South Korea on February 26, 2015, with a runtime of 120 minutes.
