The Atypical Family
The Atypical Family (Korean: 히어로는 아닙니다만; RR: Heroneun Anibnidaman) is a South Korean television series that aired on JTBC from May 4 to June 9, 2024. The series, which blends elements of fantasy and romance, was directed by Jo Hyun-Tak and written by Joo Hwa-Mi.
Plot
The story centers on the Bok family, who possess various supernatural abilities. Bok Gwi-Ju (Jang Ki-Yong) has the power to travel back in time, but he is limited to revisiting moments from his past that he considers happy. Because he cannot alter these events, he is unable to change his circumstances. Struggling with depression, Gwi-Ju eventually loses his supernatural power. His family members similarly lose their own unique abilities due to modern-day afflictions, including insomnia, bulimia, and smartphone addiction. The family's dynamics begin to shift after the arrival of Do Da-Hae (Chun Woo-Hee), who becomes involved in their lives.
Production
The series aired in the Saturday and Sunday 22:30 time slot on JTBC. It followed the drama Hide and was succeeded by Miss Night and Day on June 15, 2024. For lead actor Jang Ki-Yong, the role marked his return to acting following his discharge from mandatory military service on February 22, 2023.
