Tempest (Korean: 북극성; RR: Bookgeukseong) is a South Korean political thriller television series released in 2025. The series premiered on Disney+ on September 10, 2025, and concluded its nine-episode run on October 1, 2025. The production was directed by Kim Hee-Won and Heo Myung-Haeng, with a screenplay written by Jung Seo-Kyoung.
Plot
The narrative follows Seo Mun-Ju (played by Gianna Jun), a diplomat and former ambassador to the United States who has earned significant international trust through her professional conduct. Her life changes when she discovers evidence of political maneuvering behind an assassination case involving North and South Korea. She eventually crosses paths with Paik San-Ho (played by Gang Dong-Won), an elite mercenary whose past and nationality remain largely unknown. Together, they work to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Production
The series is notable for marking the return of actor Gang Dong-Won to television drama, his first such role since the 2004 SBS series Magic. In addition to his lead role, Gang Dong-Won served as a producer for the series.
