Tale of Gyeryong Fairy

Tale of Gyeryong Fairy, also known by its English title Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter, is a South Korean television drama series that aired on the cable network tvN in 2018. The series is based on the webcomic Gyeryongsunnyeojeon by author Dol Bae, which began serialization on Naver Webtoon in 2017.

Plot Synopsis

The story follows Sun Ok-Nam, a fairy who descended from Heaven during the Goryeo period. While bathing in a waterfall on Gyeryong Mountain, her fairy clothes were stolen by a woodcutter, preventing her return to the celestial realm. She married the woodcutter and they had two children, but her husband died after falling from a cliff. Unable to locate her clothes, Sun Ok-Nam remained on Earth for 699 years, working as a barista on Gyeryong Mountain while awaiting her husband's reincarnation.

In the present day, she encounters two men visiting from Seoul and senses that one of them is her husband. She decides to travel to Seoul to uncover the truth.

Production

The series was directed by Kim Yun-Cheol and written by Yoo Kyung-Sun. The first script reading was held on May 27, 2018, in Sangam-dong, Seoul. Actress Kang So-Ra was initially cast in the lead role of Sun Ok-Nam but withdrew from the project prior to production due to scheduling conflicts. The series aired from November 5 to December 25, 2018, occupying the Monday and Tuesday 21:30 time slot on tvN.
