Tabloid Truth (2014 Film)

Tabloid Truth (Korean: 찌라시: 위험한 소문; RR: Zzirashi: Wihumhan Somoon, literally Leaflet: Dangerous Rumor) is a 2014 South Korean crime film directed by Kim Kwang-sik. The film explores the dark side of the entertainment industry, specifically the circulation of malicious rumors, known as zzirashi, and their impact on the lives of celebrities and their representatives.

Plot

Woo-gon (Kim Kang-woo) is a dedicated talent manager who discovers an aspiring actress named Mi-jin (Go Won-hee). Despite his efforts to launch her career, he faces professional setbacks and is eventually fired from his agency. When Mi-jin later requests that he become her personal manager, Woo-gon accepts, working tirelessly to secure her roles. Just as she achieves a breakthrough by landing a lead role in a television drama, her career and reputation are destroyed by a scandalous rumor linking her to a prominent politician (Ahn Sung-ki). Following Mi-jin's sudden death, a grief-stricken Woo-gon embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind the rumors and the individuals responsible for their dissemination.

Production

The film was directed by Kim Kwang-sik, with a screenplay written by Hwang Sung-goo, Kim Yoo-jin, and the director himself. The screenwriting team of Hwang Sung-goo and Kim Yoo-jin previously collaborated on the 2011 film SIU (Special Investigation Unit). Principal photography for Tabloid Truth commenced on July 12, 2013, and concluded on October 19, 2013.
