Sutegataki Hitobito (2014 Film)
Sutegataki Hitobito (Japanese: 捨てがたき人々), released internationally as Disregarded People, is a 2014 Japanese drama film directed by Hideo Sakaki. The screenplay was written by Inochi Akiyama, based on the manga series of the same name by George Akiyama, which was serialized in Big Gold magazine between 1996 and 1999.

Plot
The story follows Yuusuke Mamiana, played by Nao Omori, an unemployed man struggling with his sense of purpose and identity. Feeling alienated from society, he returns to his hometown. While he is largely met with indifference or hostility by the local community, he encounters Kyoko Okabe, portrayed by Hitomi Miwa, who offers him a different reception. The narrative explores his attempts to find meaning and connection through his relationship with her.
Production
The film was produced by Inochi Akiyama and Hideo Sakaki. Principal photography took place between May and June 2012, with filming locations situated on the Gotō Islands, which is the hometown of director Hideo Sakaki. The film features cinematography by Kozo Miyagawa.


Release and Reception
Sutegataki Hitobito held its world premiere in October 2013 at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival, where it was featured in the competition section. The film received a general theatrical release in Japan on June 7, 2014, distributed by ARK Entertainment.
