Surplus Princess

Surplus Princess (Korean: 잉여공주; RR: Ingyeogongjoo), also known by its English title The Idle Mermaid, is a South Korean television series that aired on the cable network tvN in 2014. The series blends elements of fantasy and romantic comedy, centered on a mermaid who seeks to transform into a human.

Plot

The story follows Ha-Ni (played by Cho Bo-Ah), a mermaid who falls in love with a human man. To pursue this relationship, she undergoes a transformation to become human. Upon entering the human world, she resides at the Ingyeo House, a living space for individuals preparing to secure their first jobs. To maintain her human form permanently, Ha-Ni must ensure that the man she loves reciprocates her feelings within a 100-day timeframe.

Production

The series was directed by Baek Seung-Ryong, with a screenplay written by Park Ran and Kim Ji-Soo. The production held its first script reading on June 20, 2014, at the CJ E&M Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul. The show consisted of 10 episodes and was broadcast on Thursdays at 23:00, running from August 7 to October 9, 2014.
