Sunny (2011 South Korean Film)
Sunny is a 2011 South Korean comedy-drama film directed by Kang Hyung-chul. The narrative explores themes of friendship, nostalgia, and the passage of time by alternating between the 1980s and the present day.

Plot
The story follows Na-mi, a student who transfers to a new school in Seoul from a small town in Jeolla Province. Struggling to fit in due to her regional dialect, she is eventually befriended by a group of six girls who protect her from bullies. The group, which names itself "Sunny," consists of Chun-hwa, the loyal leader; Jang-mi, who aspires to have plastic surgery; Jin-hee, known for her sharp tongue; Geum-ok, who has a passion for literature; Bok-hee, who dreams of becoming a beauty queen; and the arrogant Su-ji. The group's bond is tested by a dramatic incident during a school festival, leading them to drift apart.
Twenty-five years later, an adult Na-mi encounters a terminally ill Chun-hwa in a hospital. This reunion prompts Na-mi to track down the other former members of their group to fulfill Chun-hwa's final wish of seeing them all together one last time.
Production
Principal photography for Sunny commenced on September 12, 2010, and concluded on December 21, 2010. The film was distributed by CJ Entertainment. A director's cut, featuring 10 minutes of additional footage previously removed to secure a general audience rating, was released in South Korean theaters on July 28, 2011.
Reception
The film achieved significant commercial success in South Korea. During its opening weekend from May 6–8, 2011, it topped the box office with 279,846 tickets sold. By the end of its theatrical run, the film had sold approximately 7.3 million tickets, ranking as one of the highest-grossing Korean films at the time of its release.
