Splendid Politics
Splendid Politics (Korean: 화정; RR: Hwajung) is a South Korean historical television drama series that aired on MBC from April 13 to September 29, 2015. The series, which consists of 50 episodes, was broadcast on Mondays and Tuesdays at 22:00.
Plot
The series follows the life of Princess Jeongmyeong, a daughter of King Seonjo during the Joseon Dynasty. Following the death of her younger brother at the hands of her older stepbrother, Prince Gwanghae, the princess faces a dramatic shift in her status and life, navigating the complex political landscape of the era.
Production
The drama was directed by Kim Sang-Ho and written by Kim Yi-Young. The project underwent several title changes during its development phase. Its initial working title was Jungmyung Gongju (Princess Jungmyung), which was later changed to Hwaryeohan Jungchi (Splendid Politics). The title was eventually shortened to Hwajung for the final broadcast. The first script reading for the production occurred on February 8, 2015, at the MBC Broadcasting Station in Sangam, South Korea.
Splendid Politics occupied the Monday and Tuesday 21:55 time slot on MBC, succeeding the series Shine or Go Crazy and preceding Glamorous Temptation in October 2015.
