Six Flying Dragons (Korean: 육룡이 나르샤; RR: Yookryongi Nareusha) is a South Korean historical television series that aired on SBS from October 5, 2015, to March 22, 2016. The drama consists of 50 episodes and was broadcast on Monday and Tuesday nights at 21:55.

Plot and Background

The series is a period drama that chronicles the political ambitions and rise to power of six central figures during the transition from the Goryeo Dynasty to the establishment of the Joseon Dynasty. The narrative centers on Lee Bang-Won, who would later become the third king of the Joseon Dynasty, and his efforts to assist his father, King Taejo, in founding the new kingdom.

Production

The series was directed by Shin Kyung-Soo, with a screenplay written by Kim Young-Hyun and Park Sang-Yeon. This production marked a reunion for the director and writers, who had previously collaborated on the 2011 SBS drama Tree With Deep Roots. Filming for the series commenced in June 2015. The drama occupied the Monday and Tuesday 21:55 time slot on SBS, following Mrs. Cop and preceding The Royal Gambler.

Characters

The cast features a combination of historical figures and fictional characters. The "six dragons" consist of the following individuals:

  • Lee Bang-Won (portrayed by Yoo Ah-In): A historical figure and the future third king of Joseon.
  • Jeong Do-Jeon (portrayed by Kim Myung-Min): A historical figure and key architect of the Joseon government.
  • Lee Seong-Gye (portrayed by Cheon Ho-Jin): A historical figure and the founder of the Joseon Dynasty.
  • Boon-Yi (portrayed by Shin Se-Kyung): A fictional character.
  • Ddang-Sae (portrayed by Byun Yo-Han): A fictional character.
  • Moo-Hyul (portrayed by Yun Kyun-Sang): A fictional character.

Actress Shin Se-Kyung had previously worked with the screenwriters on the 2009 MBC series The Great Queen Seondeok and the 2011 SBS series Tree With Deep Roots.
