Side by Side: The Person Beside You (Japanese: サイドバイサイド　隣にいる人) is a 2023 Japanese drama film written and directed by Chihiro Ito. The film explores themes of human connection and trauma through the perspective of a protagonist with a supernatural ability.

Plot

The story follows Miyama, a young man who possesses the unique ability to perceive the thoughts and inner worries of those around him. Using this power, he attempts to provide comfort and healing to individuals struggling with personal trauma. Miyama leads a quiet life alongside his partner, Shiori, a nurse, and her daughter, Bibi.

The narrative shifts when Miyama begins experiencing unsettling premonitions. These feelings are linked to Kusaka, a former high school acquaintance who has since become a musician in Tokyo. Upon attending a concert to confront these feelings, Miyama reconnects with Kusaka, who reveals significant information regarding Miyama's past and his former girlfriend, Riko.
