The company was originally established as Toshiba Entertainment Inc. on October 1, 2003. This entity was formed following the acquisition of Amuse Pictures by the Toshiba Corporation. In May 2007, the advertising firm Hakuhōdō acquired Toshiba Entertainment Inc. Following this change in ownership, the company was rebranded as Showgate Inc. on June 1, 2007.
