Shine or Go Crazy (Korean: 빛나거나 미치거나) is a South Korean historical television drama that aired on MBC from January 19 to April 7, 2015. The series consists of 24 episodes and was broadcast in the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot. It is based on the web novel of the same name by author Hyun Go-Woon, which was first published in March 2014.

Plot

The story follows Wang So, a prince of the Goryeo dynasty who endures a lonely and isolated upbringing due to a perceived cursed fate. Despite his difficult circumstances, he possesses the potential to become a powerful king. He eventually encounters Shin Yool, the last princess of Balhae, who is prophesied to become the light for another nation. Their lives become intertwined through a brief, symbolic marriage, leading to a complex romantic relationship as they navigate political intrigue and their respective destinies.

Historical Context

The protagonist, Wang So, is a fictionalized portrayal of King Gwangjong of Goryeo. While the drama incorporates historical figures and settings, it is a work of historical fiction that takes significant creative liberties with the life and reign of the historical monarch.
