Shadow Work (Japanese: シャドウワーク) is a Japanese film scheduled for release on September 25, 2026. Directed by Ryohei Yoshino, the movie is based on the novel of the same name by Hiromi Sano, which was published by Kodansha on September 28, 2022. The screenplay is co-written by Hiromi Sano and Ryohei Yoshino. The film has a runtime of 129 minutes and is distributed by Showgate.

Plot Synopsis

The story follows Noriko, played by Riho Yoshioka, who suffers physical abuse from her husband, who has threatened to kill her. Overwhelmed by hopelessness, Noriko is rescued by Nurse Michiko, played by Jun Miho, who operates a shelter located within a traditional Japanese house. The shelter is shared by several other women: Akie (Jun Fubuki), Shinobu (Wakana Sakai), Nami (First Summer Uika), and Rin (Emi Satsuki). The residents abide by strict rotation rules governing daily routines, cooking, and maintenance.

Protected by this structured environment, Noriko slowly finds a sense of calm. However, a growing sense of unease begins to develop. Simultaneously, Detective Kaoru, portrayed by Nao, becomes involved in investigating a criminal case that links back to the shelter.
