Seodongyo

Seodongyo (Korean: 서동요), also known as Ballad of Seo Dong, is a South Korean historical television drama that aired on SBS from September 5, 2005, to March 21, 2006. The series consists of 55 episodes and was directed by Lee Byung-hoon with a screenplay by Kim Young-hyun.

Plot

The series is a fictionalized dramatization based on the legend of the "Seo Dong" song, a historical folk song from the Korean Three Kingdoms period. The narrative follows the life of a young man named Jang, known to commoners as Seo Dong. According to the legend, Jang, who later ascends to the throne as King Mu, the 30th monarch of the Baekje Kingdom, uses the song to win the hand of Princess Seon-hwa, the daughter of King Jin-pyeong of the Silla Kingdom.

In the drama, Jang is depicted as a talented individual who rises from humble beginnings as a horse trader to become a significant leader. The plot explores his infiltration of the Silla capital, his efforts to win the princess's affection, and the political intrigue surrounding his eventual rise to power.
