Secret Sunshine (2007 Film)
Secret Sunshine (Korean: 밀양; RR: Milyang) is a 2007 South Korean drama film written and directed by Lee Chang-dong. The film is set in the city of Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, which serves as both the primary location and the literal meaning of the film's Korean title.

Plot
The story follows Shin-ae, a widow who moves to her late husband's hometown of Miryang with her young son, Jun, in an attempt to start a new life. During her journey, her car breaks down, leading her to meet Jong-chan, a local mechanic who becomes a persistent presence in her life. Following a devastating tragedy involving the abduction of her son, Shin-ae struggles to reconcile her grief, leading her to seek solace in religious faith, which eventually brings her into conflict with her own internal turmoil and the community around her.
Production
Director Lee Chang-dong began developing the project in 2002 following his work on the film Oasis. Production commenced in earnest after his tenure as the South Korean Minister of Culture and Tourism.
