Running Turtle (2009 Film)

Running Turtle (Korean: 거북이 달린다; RR: Keobokyi Dalrinda) is a 2009 South Korean action-drama film directed by Lee Yeon-woo. The film follows the story of Jo Pil-seong, a detective in the small county of Yeosan, whose life is disrupted by the arrival of an escaped convict named Song Ki-tae. As the fugitive undermines his reputation and personal honor, the detective embarks on a persistent pursuit to capture him.

Production and Release

The film was directed by Lee Yeon-woo, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside Lee Man-hee. It was distributed by Showbox and released in South Korea on June 11, 2009. The production features a runtime of 117 minutes.

Reception

Running Turtle achieved commercial success in its domestic market. During its opening weekend from June 12 to June 14, 2009, the film debuted at number one at the South Korean box office, selling 437,838 tickets across 490 screens, which accounted for 27.2% of total ticket sales. It concluded its theatrical run with a total of 3.04 million tickets sold, ranking as the 10th highest-grossing film in South Korea for 2009.
