Royal Secret Inspector
Royal Secret Inspector (Korean: 암행어사: 조선비밀수사단) is a South Korean television series set during the late Joseon era. The drama follows the story of a government official who is appointed as a secret royal inspector to investigate and eradicate corruption among public officers.
Plot
The story centers on Sung Yi-Gyeom (Kim Myung-Soo), a high-ranking official who achieved the top score in the state examination. Despite his academic success, he lacks ambition until he is caught gambling. As a form of punishment, he is reassigned to the role of a secret royal inspector. Accompanied by his servant, Park Chun-Sam (Lee Yi-Kyung), and a female inspector named Hong Da-In (Kwon Na-Ra), he travels across the country to uncover illegal acts and corruption.
The narrative also explores the conflict between Sung Yi-Gyeom and his younger stepbrother, Sung Yi-Beom (Lee Tae-Hwan). Due to his mother's low social status, Sung Yi-Beom faces systemic discrimination, which creates a rift between the two brothers.
Production
The series was directed by Kim Jung-Min and written by Park Sung-Hoon and Kang Min-Sun. It aired on the KBS2 network from December 21, 2020, to February 9, 2021, occupying the Monday and Tuesday 21:30 time slot. It followed Zombie Detective and was succeeded by River Where The Moon Rises.
