Rough Cut (2008 South Korean Film)
Rough Cut (Korean: 영화는 영화다; RR: Yeonghwanun Yeonghwada, literally "Movie is a Movie") is a 2008 South Korean action-gangster film directed by Jang Hun. The film explores the blurred lines between reality and performance through the intersecting lives of a real-life gangster and a temperamental movie star.

Plot
The story follows Gang-pae (played by So Ji-sub), a high-ranking member of a criminal organization who harbors a secret passion for cinema. His life intersects with Su-ta (played by Kang Ji-hwan), a popular but volatile actor known for his aggressive behavior on set. After a real-life confrontation between the two, Su-ta finds himself in a professional crisis when he injures a co-star, leaving his current film project stalled. Recalling that Gang-pae once mentioned having experience as an extra, Su-ta approaches him with an offer to co-star in the film. Gang-pae agrees to the role on the condition that their fight scenes are performed for real, without choreography.
Production and Casting
The film was produced by Kim Ki-duk, who also co-wrote the screenplay with director Jang Hun. The title characters' names are thematic: "Gang-pae" is a Korean term for a gangster, while "Su-ta" is the Korean phonetic adaptation of the English word "star."

Reception and Awards
Rough Cut received critical recognition at several international film festivals, including the Shanghai International Film Festival and the New York Asian Film Festival. The film was honored with multiple awards in South Korea, including Best New Actor accolades for both So Ji-sub and Kang Ji-hwan at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, and the BaekSang Arts Awards. Additionally, the film won the Best Screenplay award at the 46th Daejong Film Awards.
