Red Balloon (Korean: 빨간풍선; RR: Bbalganpoongsun) is a South Korean television drama series that aired on the TV Chosun network from December 17, 2022, to February 26, 2023. The series consists of 20 episodes and was broadcast in the Saturday and Sunday 21:00 time slot.
Production
The series was directed by Jin Hyung-Wook and written by Moon Young-Nam. This project marked another collaboration between the director and screenwriter, who previously worked together on several notable KBS2 drama series, including Three Brothers (2009), Wang's Family (2013), and Liver or Die (2019). The series occupied the time slot previously held by Becoming Witch and was followed by Durian's Affair in June 2023. Due to the lunar holiday weekend, episodes 11 and 12 were rescheduled from January 21–22, 2023, to January 28–29, 2023.
Plot
The narrative centers on four individuals navigating their personal desires and emotional struggles. Jo Eun-Gang (Seo Ji-Hye), a private tutor who failed her teaching examination, harbors intense inner ambitions. Ji Nam-Cheol (Lee Sung-Jae) is a man from a humble background married into a wealthy family, where he holds little power in his father-in-law's business. Han Ba-Da (Hong Soo-Hyun), a jewelry designer, faces personal and familial challenges, while her husband, Go Cha-Won (Lee Sang-Woo), a dermatologist, struggles with his career and the complexities of his marriage.
