Red (2020 Japanese Film)

Red is a Japanese drama film released on February 21, 2020. Directed by Yukiko Mishima, the film is an adaptation of the 2014 novel of the same name written by Rio Shimamoto and published by Chuokoron-Shinsha.

Plot

The story follows Toko Suguri, played by Kaho, a woman living a seemingly stable life with her husband and daughter. Her perspective shifts after she encounters her former lover, Akihiko Kurata, portrayed by Satoshi Tsumabuki, at a wedding. The two had not been in contact for a decade. Following this reunion, Toko enters into a complex relationship with Akihiko.

Production

The film was directed by Yukiko Mishima, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside Chihiro Ikeda. The production team included producers Yumi Arakawa, Satoshi Akagi, and Suguru Kubota, with cinematography by Shinya Kimura. The film has a runtime of 123 minutes and was distributed by Nikkatsu.
