Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People
Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (Korean: 역적: 백성을 훔친 도적) is a South Korean historical drama series that aired on MBC from January 30 to May 16, 2017. The series follows the life of the legendary figure Hong Gil-dong, portrayed as a revolutionary activist during the Joseon Dynasty.
Production
The drama was directed by Kim Jin-man and written by Hwang Jin-young. During its development, the series was known by the working title Yeokjuk Honggildong (Traitor Hong Gil-dong). The first script reading for the main cast occurred on December 30, 2016, at the MBC Broadcasting Station in Sangam, South Korea.
The series occupied the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot on MBC, succeeding White Nights and preceding The Guardians. The broadcast schedule for the final episodes was adjusted due to the 2017 South Korean presidential election; specifically, episode 28 was moved to May 8, 2017, and episode 29 was moved to May 15, 2017.
