Rampant (2018 Film)

Rampant (Korean: 창궐; RR: Changgwol) is a 2018 South Korean action-horror film directed by Kim Sung-Hoon. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, the film blends historical period drama with zombie horror elements.

Plot

The story follows Lee Chung (Hyun-Bin), a Prince of Joseon who has spent years as a political hostage in the Qing Dynasty. Despite his reputation for hedonism, he is a skilled swordsman. Upon the request of his older brother, Crown Prince Lee Young, Lee Chung returns to Joseon. Shortly after his arrival, he discovers that the kingdom is being terrorized by mysterious, nocturnal monsters that threaten to consume the nation.

Production

The film was directed by Kim Sung-Hoon, with a screenplay by Hwang Jo-Yoon. The production team reunited several key members from the 2017 film Confidential Assignment. Principal photography commenced on September 1, 2017, and concluded on February 13, 2018.

The production faced a significant casting change during filming. Actor Kim Ju-Hyeok was originally cast to play the Crown Prince Lee Young in a special appearance. Following his death in a car accident on October 30, 2017, the role was recast with Kim Tae-Woo.
