Production

During its development phase, the project utilized several working titles. It was initially referred to as Majimak Yeobiseo (literally "Last Secretary") and later as Boseuga Dallajeutseoyo (literally "The Boss Has Changed").

Premise and Character Dynamics

The series is noted for subverting traditional tropes found in South Korean romantic comedies. Instead of the typical narrative where a vulnerable woman is pursued by a powerful, confident man, Protect the Boss features a role reversal. The male lead, Cha Ji-hun (played by Ji Sung), is a wealthy executive who suffers from anxiety, including agoraphobia and ochlophobia (fear of crowds), making him an object of pity. Conversely, the female lead, No Eun-sul (played by Choi Gang-hee), is a resilient and self-confident woman who struggles with employment due to her academic background but possesses a strong, assertive personality.
