Private Eye (2009 Film)

Private Eye (Korean: 그림자 살인; RR: Geurimja Salin) is a 2009 South Korean period thriller film directed by Park Dae-min. Set in 1910, the narrative follows a medical student who becomes entangled in a murder investigation after discovering a corpse.

Plot

Jang Kwang-su (Ryu Deok-hwan), a medical student, discovers a human corpse while searching for animal specimens for surgical practice. He later realizes the body belongs to the missing son of a prominent politician. Fearing he will be identified as the primary suspect due to his unauthorized medical activities, Kwang-su seeks the assistance of Hong Jin-ho (Hwang Jung-min), a private detective. Although initially reluctant, Jin-ho eventually agrees to investigate the case.

Reception and Box Office

The film was released in South Korea on April 2, 2009. It opened at number one at the domestic box office, selling 234,715 tickets during its opening weekend. Throughout its theatrical run, the film sold approximately 1.9 million tickets and grossed 12.6 billion KRW, remaining in the top ten for five weeks.

Awards

Private Eye received the award for Best Art Direction at the 30th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2009.
